Bacterial vaginosis
Watery discharge and an unusual odour, especially after sex: bacterial vaginosis is the most common imbalance of the vaginal flora.
This information is general and does not constitute medical advice. Only a doctor can assess your situation.
What is bacterial vaginosis?
Bacterial vaginosis occurs when lactobacilli, the beneficial bacteria in the vagina, decrease and allow other bacteria, such as Gardnerella vaginalis, to take over.
It often goes unnoticed: many affected women have no symptoms. It is not a sexually transmitted infection, but it is more common in sexually active people.

Frequently asked questions
No, but it is more common in sexually active people, and a new partner can change the balance of the vaginal flora.
Yes, recurrences are common. If bacterial vaginosis returns often, talk to the doctor to review the contributing factors.
